Abstract: |
This research aims to explore the impact of farmers' livelihood capital on the adoption behavior of new agricultural social services, and promoted the adoption behavior of new agricultural social services by farmers from the whole procession of industry chain. Based on the framework of sustainable livelihood analysis, this study used micro-level data from 569 rural households surveyed in Jiangxi province to construct a binary logistic regression model and empirically examine the relationship between livelihood capital and the adoption behavior of new agricultural socialized services for farmers in different stages of production. The results were showed as follows. (1) Education level, agricultural labor force quantity, cultivated land area, family annual income, whether joining cooperatives, whether serving as village cadres, and number of channels for obtaining agricultural information had significant effects on promoting adoption behavior of new agricultural socialized services for farmers in the pre-production stage.(2) Agricultural labor force quantity, cultivated land area, family annual income, and number of channels for obtaining agricultural information had significant effects on promoting adoption behavior of new agricultural socialized services for farmers in the production stage.(3) Education level, cultivated land area, family annual income, whether joining cooperatives, whether serving as village cadres, and number of channels for obtaining agricultural information had significant effects on promoting adoption behavior of new agricultural socialized services for farmers in the post-production stage. (4) Number of plots had a significant effect on inhibiting adoption behavior of new agricultural socialized services for farmers throughout the production process. (5) Distance to county seat, village terrain, and operation mode had positive effects on promoting adoption behavior of new agricultural socialized services for farmers throughout the production process. Based on these, some policy suggestions are put forward as follows below. Re-education and re-train should be provided for farmers, so that labor could be guided to return to agriculture. The small fields merging into large fields and suitable mechanization transformation should be carried forward. The channels of increasing farmers' income should be broadened so that the total household income could be steadily increased. The functions of farmers' organizations should be innovated so that some channels of agricultural information could be broadened. The distribution of main service bodies should be optimized so that some diversified operation models could be developed. |
