Abstract:
The red gene is the most unique connotation of the old revolutionary areas, and it is the endogenous driving force to promote rural revitalisation in the old revolutionary areas. However, existing studies have mostly focused on the role of single factors such as red tourism resources, ignoring the fact that rural revitalisation in old revolutionary areas is the result of synergistic driving of multiple red factors and multiple internal and external dynamics. This research took 21 village cases from Shanxi, Shandong and Henan provinces as samples. And based on the new endogenous development theory, it applied fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis and necessity test method to analyze the path of influence of the grouping effect of internal and external dynamics of villages, including the endogenous dynamics of red genes, on village revitalisation and the complex causal mechanism behind. The results were showed as follows. (1) There were three group paths that achieved rural revitalisation in old revolutionary areas: the new endogenous driving path of the red gene, the ‘endogenous-exogenous’ fusion driving path, and the general new endogenous driving path. A single endogenous or exogenous driving force could not constitute a necessary condition for rural revitalisation in old revolutionary areas, and a combination of endogenous and exogenous driving forces was more conducive to rural revitalisation in old revolutionary areas. (2) Red resources and government support played a more universal core role in promoting rural revitalisation in old revolutionary areas. (3) There was a substitution relationship between red resources, red education and red culture and location conditions and industrial structure. Therefore, the findings of this research provide empirical evidence from a group perspective on how old revolutionary areas can draw power from the red gene and use endogenous and exogenous power to achieve rural revitalisation.
