Abstract:
Promoting the green transformation and development of agriculture in China is a crucial path towards building a strong agricultural nation. Assessing the coordination between agricultural production efficiency and green technology innovation in China, and understanding their inherent relationship and spatiotemporal evolution, is significant for balancing stable and high agricultural production with green agricultural development. This research constructed an evaluation indicator system for agricultural production efficiency and green technology innovation, used the Super-Efficiency Slacks-Based Measure (Super-SBM) model to measure China's agricultural production efficiency, further gauged its coupling coordination degree with green technology innovation, and finally employed a spatial autocorrelation model to comprehensively describe and analyze the spatiotemporal pattern evolution of their coupled and coordinated development. The results were indicated as follows. (1) On the time scale, China's agricultural production efficiency and green technology innovation achieved coordinated development overall since 2000, but possibly due to objective factors, such as the pandemic and economic conditions, in the past two years, the coupling coordination degree between China's agricultural production efficiency and green technology innovation declined. (2) In terms of regional differences, the coupling coordination degree was higher in the eastern region and lower in the central, western, and northeastern regions. The coupling coordination degree in the eastern, central, and western regions exhibited similar growth trends, while the growth trend of coupling coordination degree in the northeastern region had been slowing down year by year. (3) Overall, the spatial interaction of the coupled and coordinated development between agricultural production efficiency and green technology innovation in China was not high and showed a downward trend. The number of "high-high" agglomeration provinces in the eastern region had been decreasing year by year. The "low-low" agglomeration provinces in the western region had not seen effective improvements. There were significant differences in the coupling coordination degree among provinces in the central and northeastern regions. In summary, under the new development pattern, it is necessary to expedite the development of emerging productive forces and enhance the driving force for modern agricultural development. We should deepen reforms according to local conditions and explore regionally specific paths for green agricultural development. At the same time, we should open up channels for factor circulation and further promote coordinated and interactive development between regions.
